My Camera: Canon 40D

You Guys Rock

many thanks for all the good info found in my previous thread

special thanks to Ben for all the help, Bimjo for the advice to physically try the cameras for fit side by side, I had previously looked at them individually and thought they pretty much felt the same

WRONG, once I had them all side by side, I found my fingers to small for this, that button in the way, this switch hitting this finger, etc.

I found one that fit better than the rest, almost like a glove, so I got that one.

Thanks to stdave for the link to amazon's warehouse, I had no idea it existed, and apparently, I'm too old to be that patient for a camera, I will be patiently waiting for some deals on lenses.

And I owe Gebber dinner at a bike night and the beverage of his choice, for the best-buy idea.

I printed the canon promotions web page, and the instant rebate pdf and took them to the store.

It took a little talking, they first said I had to send something to canon to get the rebate, but we looked at the web page, we looked at the pdf, we looked at the duration of the promotion, we got a manager over and they called it a web site price match. They wouldn't let me use my 10% off coupon on top of the $200 off, and I expected that.

so

ready

I'm looking at my new Canon 40d.

(ya know, if you open the box from the bottom, that little 15% restocking sticker remains unbroken )

Now if that #@$#@ battery will just charge.

Congrats

You should go back and bring the 10percent coupon on a different day or different store where they have different people on shift.

I do that all the time. I say I forgot to use my coupon the other day.

Works everytime.

Also depending on which store u buy it they have protection plan.
I paid 176$ tax already counted for 4 years of coverage. I ride a lot rain or shine. They will cover rained on or dropped camera. No deductible fees.

Oh this is bestbuy by the way.

I think after 3years I will have a new camera on them, coz my camera will be accidentally dropped or rained on.

thanks, I also just received my consumer reports, guess what camera was their 'quick pick' for advanced DSLR, yup 40d

the top rated advanced camera was the , cough, cough nikon 300D , but the price difference pushed the canon to be their pick

Good idea, I turned down the protection plan by reflex, but he said I have 30 days to buy it. Maybe I'll read the plan and look into it.

Where did u buy the kit?
Best buy?

If so, you also get double the rewards points if u signed up on that. Its free to sign up.

Just got my 55$ rewards certificate for buying the 40d kit for 1214$

Going towards hmm? Lens? Tripod?
Ps3? Just for blue ray purposes.

Here's a plug. Walmart is giving away 100$ giftcard if u buy a ps3. Best buy will match it.

So 399$ for ps3
-55$ my rewards points from 40d
-10 percent discount
=304$
+ I get 100$ gift card right after the purchase.
So after things are done
I get a ps3 for a mere 204$ +tax

And on top of that I get more rewards points.

Ofcourse add tax.

I signed up for the points thing, I didn't know that I get double
so in about 30 days I get about $40 in gift card, cool

in trade of not having an income tax? you bet

there are ways around sales tax. not ways around income tax unless you pull of the resident of one state, living in another thing.

Ya had to go and bring that up.

I'd sign up for sales tax in a second if I believed my legislature would remove, and not bring back the income tax.

you should by the protection plan.

on the other thread they are talking bout shutters getting replaced. that alone is already 350$ to 600$ they're talking about. over time you will need that.

also includes cleaning and a one time replacement on battery.

Congrats! The D300 by my math is 7.5 times better than the 40D but that's not a bad camera at all. Have fun!

Works for me, I just found a nice lowepro slingshot bag at costco,
nice set up, I like that you don't have to take the bag off and hunt around for the camera, and you can walk/ride with it.

Camera bags sure have come a long way
