My Camera: Nikon D40

Automatic ISO

How the f**k do I turn this off? I was doing some night shooting and 'set' the ISO to 200 but when I pull the raw files up in CS3 it's telling me they were at ISO 600 and 680... and the grainyness of the images shows that it was so.

I was shooting in Manual mode. I don't get it.

Is there a setting or something I missed? I want it so not do any automatic ISO adjustments at all.

I think it's in your camera menu settings.

I went through the menu and switched it from Auto to 200 but the pics were taken at 600 according to the Exif info.

If your D40 is similiar to my D60...you should be able to access the "shooting menu" by pressing the "i" button when the "settings menu" is displayed. Once you've accessed the shooting menu you can use the cursor button to select ISO, and adjust accordingly...I think.

Reading your manual generally helps too... lol

Yeah, I'm at work and decided to ask. Manual's at home in a box somewhere. I thought I had done that though so I was pretty disappointed when the pics came out how they did.

Figured it out, there's TWO places to set the ISO on this camera. Bah. William was right (and that's what I had done before) but there's a second place in the Custom Shooting menu where had to disable auto ISO.
