D80?

Ok so after checking out the XSI in person, it looks and feels kind of cheap. Now we are looking at the D80 and the 40D I know Nikon vs Canon but give me input to these or similar cameras! We want something that feels solid not plastic like the rebel series.

ok tahnk you

My Camera: Canon EOS Rebel XTi

No clue, but seen a D80 in person and looks like a beautfully crafted tool

My Camera: disposable

40d will feel way more solid than the d80. if you want a comparable nikon, see if you can find a d300.

magnesium body ftw.

My Camera: Canon 40D

Ya, I own a 40D, and it's definitely not a light piece of plastic. Nor does it look cheap, in my opinion.

They will take fairly comparable photos but the 40d is much more durable because of the body hence the $300 (or so) higher price tag. Also if you're looking at the D80 you might want to wait a month and see if the D90 comes out. Then you can either buy that or get a cheaper D80 (which I'd do because do you really the D90?)
