My Camera: Nikon D40

Must-Have Glass

Given a perfect day to go out and photograph anything and everything... which lenses would you take with you if you could take only 4 and why would you choose them?

I only have these two right now and I'm curious what else is out there and what advantages there are to specific lenses. I like doing night and time-lapse photography as well as macro shots, myself....but my current lenses don't do marco well, haha.

Nikon AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED Nikkor
Nikon AF-S 55-200 mm f/4-5.6G ED DX Nikkor

My Camera: Nikon D300

I recommend selling those 2 lenses and getting the 18-200 VR which is one lens that does what both of those 2 do.

The best 2 lens setup IMHO is my nikon 24-70 2.8 and nikon 70-200 2.8 - I am covered with both of these lenses.

Then start looking at the nikon 50mm, a macro, and a wide angle.

The best wide-angle is the new Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 if you can find one.

Gold & black baby!

70-200 2.8 VR
105mm VR macro
85mm or 50mm 1.4

For general shooting (for vacations) I think the 18-200VR is a great all around lens.
