My Camera: Nikon D300

Since I know nothing about the new XSI... what's the new bells and whistles with it? Which Nikon model is it competing against?

The kit lens is supposed to have IS, no?

Def not in the body.

3.5f/sec also instead of the XTi's 3.

yes. supposedly it's a better kit lens overall than previous models. like, almost superawesomespectacular. but for $100, can it really?

My Camera: Canon XSi

FYI -
I am about 99% sure i will be buying the XSi with lens package, and the cheapest I found this $899 (MSRP) kit is for $760 shipped.
I'll post up site later today, but please, do tell if you find a cheaper price shipped for the XSi with the lens included.
thanks
michael

When finding the absolute cheapest places online for camera equipment beware the evil sites. There are many terrible sellers out there. Based on the price you posted, I'm guessing you found one of those sites.

yeah. do a review of the site you found.

one evil place = soniccameras.com.

you order, they call you and try to convince you to buy "better," you deny, they tell you your order is not in stock and will take months to complete.

or something like that.

Good point. I think what I should have said was comparable instead of competing.

would not trust 'em. mostly because they're saying they have it in stock, when it hasn't been officially released, yet.

a quick google search in reviews for that site resulted with this: PrestigeCamera.com Reviews and Store Ratings at BizRate

and this:
PriceGrabber User Rating for Prestige Camera - PriceGrabber.com

i'd stay away and just stick to the trusted stores.

WOW, thanks so much for those links!!!
According to them, the company does bait and switch like NO other, and actually has low prices b/c cameras are Japanese models, you have to pay a couple hundred more for the US version, which they don't tell you until you "have to call to confirm your order."
Just to see how bad things could be, I called their number. Waited on hold for like 20 mins, then a guy picked up "be right with you -click-", 10 more minutes, then he finally picks up "What do you want?"
Me: "Um, ok [asshole]. I am interested in the XSi and saw it advertised on your site for like $760 with the lens kit. Is this price correct, shipping included?"
Guy: "Um, yeah that sounds about right I think."
Me: "Well, is this the price or are there other fees involved?"
Guy: "Do you want to order the camera or did you just call to ask questions?"
Me: [F**k you, KIT, keep it together ] "I'm sorry, I was just trying to confirm your pricing. Also, your site says it's in stock, but my understanding is that the camera hasn't been released yet. Is this a European or Japanese model?"
Guy: "Ofcoursenot [spoken as so]. So can I put you down for the camera?'
Me: [WTF?! Are you a used car salesman?!] "Um, I don't think so. But thank you for your time and the information."
Guy: "What's keeping you from ordering it today?'
Me: [ ] "I don't think I'm ready to order today, but thank you."
Guy: "This has been a waste of my time then, you're telling me?"

I still can't believe this conversation actually happened. I have NEVER seen or heard of such a dismissive and hostile attitude towards your customers. I mean, I (could have been) trying to give them MY money, and you're going to treat me like a POS?? Where do you get off doing this??
I have now resolved to give this company as much $hit as I possibly can. Stay tuned for a thread therein, I'll prob. record the call or something : )

That's not cool at all! I feel sorry for those who didnt know, thinking they were getting a US model but received an Imported model instead. There are no warranties on those Imported models, hence their reduced price.

probably a good example of why some people pay more for things (disclaimer: not saying you're cheap). i've been known to pay more for something based on customer service on plenty of occassions.

oh, and i'm wrong about the 15th. just too lazy to edit a post no one will read.

not out yet and no pre-orders but dell.com is where I am getting mine from. I trust them and have spent $$$$$$ with them and have had 0 issues. Also I called and asked them about the xsi and they said they are direct shiped from Canon to you so 100% the real deal

Yeah, I'm not surprised... A lot of those companies are actually the same place, just use different names.

On the Canon XSI, does the AF system work with the LiveView enabled? I'm assuming it's like the Nikon and it doesnt, but thought I'd ask.
