I did it!!!!

Just picked up a XSI kit (18-55) and a Canon 55-250!

Took a few pics, messing around with the cats and the dog and a couple outside pics, just 'plug and play'-style.

Wow! Very nice pics. Even on full auto. (will get them up in a bit)

Well, I have A LOT to learn now.

Thanks, all, for your advice and info (here and on pnwriders)

bought it at Best Buy as part of a package deal. they took 50 bucks off, so it was about 299. was the best price I could find in town, or on the major sites on the interwebz.

Plus, (my German Father and his love for bartering are seen here) since I was kicking down some $$$, I asked the camera manager helping me 'bout cards/filters etc, and he took between 25-50% off non sale prices right there, for those accessories.

So, even if you are buying from big box, be kind, ask questions, and don't be afraid to haggle/barter, it may pay off with $$$ for you.

I really like the lense a lot (for the few shots I took--which I will get posted up), but as I was in a meeting from 7:00-5:30 yesterday I still have not had the time.

OK, finally got home, and to the computer.

So, I opened up the box, unwrapped the camera/lens/battery, followed the 'get started quick' instructions and antagonized my pets a bit, then took a few outside pics.

Just put the camera on "full auto" and took pics.

Here goes:

Those are the inside pics with the kit lens.

Put on the 55-250 and took some test shots.

Full Auto, no adjustments.

Next 4 show same 'view' but different 'zoom'

55

250

Those pics were cool, cuz you can see a hawk in the 250 photo on top of the second tree on the right!

Well, there you go.

Hope that is valuable in a 'beginner review' sort of way.

Also I did head downtown the the Spokane River Falls area after getting today and took a quick walk with my XSI. Will post them up in a sec.

BTW, this camera Rocks...and I have much to learn.
