Cropping?

So while reviewing some photos from today, I came across one that I liked and wanted to get some feedback on cropping.

Due to the background of the image, I had to have more blure in the lower portion of the photo that I really wanted.

I've done a crop of the original image and would like to know what others use to judge what should/shouldn't be cropped out.

Here's the original:

And the cropped version:

id crop about a half inch more because the blur your trying to get rid of is still noticeable

That's the deal:

Wasn't sure if I should crop all of it out, or if I should leave a little bit?

Id crop it on top of the well defined line on the left side high point

even though it still goes from out of focus there is a more natural progression of texture without that peice in there

in other words for me it would flow better

Would you mind making an edit of it and showing me what you are referring to? I think I know, but I'd like to see it for verification.

You have full permission to make any/all edits you would like. I'd appreciate you sharing details with me of any changes you make. This is a good photo for me to learn things from.

My Camera: disposable

rule of thumb: don't let edges of objects or lines get too close to the frame of the image. it makes the image look crowded and tight.

iow, don't crop along that line. your first crop was good. i feel that if you crop any more, you lose that perception of depth without the foreground. though there's perspective, the image becomes flat and will feel a little deformed.

For me this cut flows more draws the eye throught the path where as the other cut the brightness of the out of focus board acts like a step makes me stop and focus on that board rather than taking my eyes on a walk
