Camera Issues

Hello All,

I have been taking pictures for a little over a year now and I am having some issues with photo's coming out blurry. Below is a string of pics I took last weekend and could use some suggestions for figuring out what's wrong. I am using a Canon 30d that has taken just over 4K photos with a 70-200 f2.8l IS lens and a 1.4x extender.

Thanks,

Jonah

it's not so much your exposure settings you should worry about if your pics are coming out blurry. what af drive do you have it set to? one shot? servo?

also, which focus points do you have active? just one? all?

optimal setting for the track would be to have all the focus points active on ai servo mode for continuous focusing.

Thanks for the reply jezterr, I was using AI server mode and was only using the center focal point. I will try to take some pics today using all of the focus points. This is also the first time I have used AI server mode, is there any tricks with it?

not so much tricks as just holding it down continuously. having all the focus points on, it'll be a little quicker to target instead of working so hard on the one focus point. also, the canons focus using contrast. ie if you focus on a solid colored wall, it'll have issues focusing and will continuously search, as opposed to a patterned wall where it picks up the contrast in the pattern and focuses. grays and blacks are difficult for it, and it focuses on red and white combinations the quickest.

part of the issue with these images may be just that it has a hard time seeing the bike, because of its colors.

That's good to know that they focus on contrast. I always have trouble shooting my friends black bike, but when he rides his other one the pictures come out WAY better.

Yup. I had troubles taking picture of the same bike (#816) and I was down in Turn 3 taking photos. The color scheme of the bike (flat black & bright yellow) makes it difficult. About 1/2 of the images I got of the bike I had to toss out.
