it would be cool to see the normal exposure next to the hdr for comparison.

Yep, trial version. And I am not too pleased with how it came out.

I think I need to get further from correct exposure, as in lager steps. This was 7 images btw. But it was only 1 full step over and under.

Any suggestions?

I'll post the original middle image in a day or so.

My suggestion is to pick a different photo. Honestly, it's kind of a boring photo anyways and it's not something that really requires HDR.

For example:

This photo required flash or HDR to make it work. The sun was very bright and I'm sure the boat had huge shadows. Plus it's an interesting picture.

This is other thing HDR is good for, bringing out deep texture in skies.

It's hard to find good places to use HDR at first, keep looking. Sunsets and sunrises can be great.

I was actually thinking that, it was just a simple shot that I decided to use, now I need to look for the shots that need it. I do appreciate the feedback though.

notice that the best time to use hdr is when something would be blown out or underexposed in a normal shot. the more exaggerated the extremes, the more dramatic the hdr will look...

I have noticed, but its hard to see it is an HDR. Looking at yours and others I think I imagine that anything just looks good as an HDR.

I shall take more this week and give it another shot.

You don't need HDR often on gray days... less contrast. Bright sun gives you the differences that require HDR or some other technique to give you the shot you want.

So when I see HDR shots that have such amazing clouds they aren't from grey days?
Although it makes sense as when you already have good contrast it isn't needed.

No, they are usually at sunset so you get the sun lighting up clouds.

This was from a pic shot in RAW then I changed the exposure giving me 7 total images.

This is my first try at this from a free trial verson so be kind! I've never even played with this software before so it's a learning experience. Anyway - here it is. Yes - I know there are some areas that need fixing - I'm workiing on it...
