So I've discovered that I really enjoy shooting stuff that moves, bikes, cars, skaters, etc. I took these a couple weekends ago and would like to hear your thoughts on what does/doesn't work for you. I'd also like to hear any tips for this kind of work, best settings to start from, choosing a location, lens choices, framing choices, etc.

Thanks for looking.

My Camera: Canon S5 and XTi

1 = Ok
2 = Nothing grabs my attention about the photo?
3 = Would have been much better if you had focused in on the rider
4 = Blurry/grainy. Zoom would have been better too!

I looked for a while and couldn't figure out why these didn't really work for me. The third one caught my attention more than the others, though. I kept looking for the differences.

Then I realized it - the third one is the ONLY shot that shows the contact area of tires and road. I think that each of them would benefit from a higher angle; if you could get a few feet higher I think the second and fourth shots would have a little more 'snap' to them.

Anyone else see this?

I agree with SeattleVet... third one seemed to hold my attention better than the others. It appears you're trying to capture the twists and turns of the road... can you do that from a higher angle?

Cool, thanks for all the input. I'll have to look around at the spot I was using. Worst case scenario I can get a little step ladder or something. I do like seeing the undulations of the road, mayhap I can time the shots to catch the riders on top of a rise.

I'm using the ai servo auto focus and playing around with panning and such. I may try and simplify things a bit by focusing on one spot and try to get a good shot there.

Lots to think about and work on. Thanks.
