cs3 help
opening a raw image prompts the raw viewer editing screen to pop up.
sometimes it tries to fix my white balance. when really it just messes it up because i purposely took a series of images with the wb way off for the style i'm trying to do. the image will be how i want it in camera, then the image takes a crap as soon as cs3 looks anywhere near its general direction. can this be prevented? i don't touch anything, it just opens screwed up and then i yell and scream. everything is still listed 'as shot' but clearly not since the image in the camera and the image staring back at me on screen look completely different. bridge does the same thing. the only solution i've been able to come up with is opening it up in an eos utility and saving it as a tiff or jpeg then opening in cs3. which is dumb and stupid and defeats the purpose. |

ON CS3
edit-preference-file handling- uncheck the file compatibility for camera raw. ![]() ![]() It will prevent ACR from opening raw files

quasi-explanation
in camera and itty bitty preview before opening file with the wb how it is suppose to be: ![]() and without touching a damn thing except opening the file: ![]() supposedly the wb is 'as shot' but it isn't. i can move all the sliders possible, but nothing works to make it what it's suppose to look like when opening. One, Did you choose default setting at the top of the sliders?
Another thing you can do is adjust everything to what you want, such as WB, choose the WB picker top left and click on a white object of any size in the picture. If there isn't any, put the hue slider on "0" and slider the white balance to what looks right, the number to the right equals the Kelvin temperature, Sun light is around 6k and incandescent is around 3.4k. Just slide it to what looks like you want, then maybe a bit on the hue also. once your done, other adjustments to what ever looks good, just to get you started. to the right of the word "basic" above while balance is a little menu icon, click on it and select save new camera raw defaults. this will be the new default setting for when you open all following images, then you can continue to fix images from that base setting. Let me know if this helps ya. |

Photoshop will automatically open raw images using Adobe Camera Raw. What camera are you using? Also what ACR version are you using to open your raw files. I'm thinking you ACR camera profile is the crook. Make sure you have a compatible profile for your camera.

i can mess with the settings a bit to kind of get close to what it's suppose to look like in camera, but that's just a pain in the ass and shouldn't be something that i should have to do. Quote:
i have a dropdown to allow 4.4 and 4.2 but they don't do much. i think i'm just going to cry and continue to convert to tiff/jpg until i buy a dedicated ir camera. or just not shoot ir in raw at all. since there really isn't a point to begin with. thanks guys. I guess I should have looked at you pic.
It looks like your in default settings, and your defaults have not been set, that's why your WB slider is all the way to the left, click on AUTO and see what you get, then adjust from there. Look at it as all pics you open are the negitive of the picture, if you were doing film it's all on how you process it, or letting it do it in AUTO. I start by setting the default, that's where I start by setting it close on a image knowing what it should look like. In other words, your setting a base line and adjusting from there, you have to do it to every pic you open unless you click on AUTO. By setting your base line and saving it as the default to start with and adjusting each image to your liking from there. or, hit AUTO and start from there. Hope this helps. |

I have CS4, so I'm not certain it's in the same place, but here I go Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw then look for Default Image Settings and make sure Apply Auto Tone Adjustments is unchecked.
