Monitor & TV Adjustment?
Anyone know a good place to find adjustment settings for computer monitors and HDTV's?
I bought a 15ft HDMI cord so I can hook my laptop to my TV and edit in size "huge".. lol But in hooking it up, I notice a big difference in how the picture on my laptop looks vs. my TV, so I need to make some adjustments. Will update drivers, settings, etc. as necessary to ensure I have both the laptop and output to the TV set correctly. Ideas? |

If your computer is a Mac, use Adobe Color on your display and try to match your TV's color, hue, saturation, brightness and contrast settings to it.

It's an HP laptop (with an NVidia graphics card...not that graphics memory BS) and a Samsung 1080p tv.
Both are set to max native resolution. 1680x1050 on my laptop (17" widescreen) and 1920x1080 on the TV. |

that might be your problem there where you aren't matching resolutions. Can you adjust the resolution of the TV to match the max resolution of the video card?

Just installed the updated NVidia control panel. Will play with it more tomorrow to see if I can get them to match.
Oh, and I just realized I misspelled the thread title... LOL |

set your laptop first using a color correction, then set your tv. Or just guess on the monitor and get the tv to match, your laptop is probably closer to what it should be.

Apparently with all my photos looking "dark" to everyone, something is way wrong. I think the brightness and gamma on my laptop are wrong.
This is damn frustrating. And I can't find adobe gamma on here to set it appropriately. Argh. |

Got gamma installed. Spent an hour and a half reading, adjusting, etc. I believe it's pretty darn close now and I can see what people were saying about my images looking underexposed. They looked fine on my monitor, but they didn't look right otherwise.
Now I have to re-do nearly 100 pictures from my trip. I can only imagine how all my previous pics from WMRRA, nature, etc. all look. *sigh* |

you can also get a monitor calibration device. They arnt the cheapest things around, but worth it. Wish I had one to calibrate all the monitors at the shop so they would match better.

Turns out a co-worker of a co-worker had a Spyder with the Pro version of the software.
My hand-tuning had done an OK job, but with this thing... WOW. Now I know why people use them. I disabled the Nvidia control panel and saved a new color profile with this tool. It's a beautiful thing. I set it using Gamma 2.2, and 6500k for color. Everything is crisp, clear, and it has just a slightly warmer tone to it with the change in Kelvin. I guess I previously had adjusted my colors to have a cooler look. |
