tips for the amatuer

I'll be shooting a ball this weekend and I'm looking for some tips from the pros as to what my settings should be, anything that will just help generally make my pictures turn out better.

I'll be using the following equipment:

bodies
Nikon d300
Nikon d60

lenses
Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8D ED AF
18-55mm f4.5
70-300 f5.6

flash
SB-900 Speedlight

it's going to be in doors, and low light hence the flash. There will be a lot of action shots of people dancing (ballroom to be exact).

Any tips from anyone here??

Also, does anybody have the MB-D10 battery pack/grip for the d300 that i could borrow for sunday the 23rd?? I'm willing to shell out some $$ to borrow it. Or a 6 pack of beer, whichever works better.

Thanks in advance guys!

I'm sure you're already planning on doing this but get that flash off the camera and bounce the light off the ceiling, walls, etc to get the desired lighting effects.

Spend time in the 80-135mm range for portraits and small groups. Get some wide angle shots in. Aperture should be wide open, or close to it. ISO should be fast, shutter speeds in the 1/4" to 1/100" range. Drag the shutter.
