Which lens would be best for portrait?

If you'd have to choose between 50 mm f1.4 or 24-70mm/f2.8, which one would you use for better portraits?

neither, but if I had to select one it would be the 50 for it's sharpness. I wouldn't shoot wide open though.

24-70's got problems. if you decide that way, make sure you get a newer one, as opposed to one produce a year or so ago.

50mm makes nice portraits, though.

I'd go fiddy.

I cant seem to forget the old adage about primes having better sharpness, regardless of the advances made in zoom lens optics from every manufacturer.

of the 2? Prob the 50.

But it all depends on your needs, a prime lens can be unworkable in the wrong evironment.

The most versatile and good portrait lens would prob be a 70-200 2.8 L IS USM..............

I'll be using my 70-300 today for a wedding.............I'm not getting paid, so I dont care, but If I were getting paid.

I'd want a 50, 85, 70-200 2.8, 17-55 2.8

^Why do you shoot a wedding if you don't even care?

It's my sisters wedding...................She asked me too.

My point was, I don't feel a responsibility to buy expensive glass if I'm not getting paid to do it. If someone were to ever pay me, I'd feel a resposiility to have better equipment........

Understand?

Oh yeah, all my sisters were like that.............one at 16, one at 17, and now one at 18.......If you meet a Gussenhoven woman, stay far away..........

To the OP, get a 200mm prime............tryin to stay on topic

I gotta say having the 70-300 with me this weekend was pretty nice and allowed me to get away from the couple for some candid shots. Just have to figure out what to do with the people who stand in the way, cause yellin at them did'nt work...........

it all depends on if they're cute or not.

and yelling at people to gtfo the way is totally kosher. better pissed relatives that an aunt's big ass taking up half the frames of your wedding pictures.
