Framing larger prints?
I have a couple larger prints (20x30) I'd like to get framed, matted or otherwise put in a form I can hang on the wall. I'm ok with doing it myself if there's an easy enough way to make it look good or to take it to someplace to have it done.
Anyone know... A cool way to do it yourself? Ideas for what style to do it? A recommended store that can do a good job for not too much? Anywhere between Portland and Seattle is fine. |

Kit's.
- 20x30 print - Placement on 1/4" stock w/ UV laminate - Regular black frame $95 out the door I believe it was. If you already have the print it'll be cheaper (obviously). |

The Ben Franklin store in Redmond next to the QFC store has a lot of frames and mats. I don't know if they have that size in ready made but it's worth a call.

All I know is Michael's craft store, and usually has 40% alot of different plane and matted frames for sale.
Or you can buy the frame in pieces, like the side rails as 20" and top and bottom in 30" then just screw it together. And then there's Ikea, lots of simple black wood frames there. Won't walk into a regular frame shop, way over priced for me. |

Getting frames can be pretty spendy, especially when you get into the larger sizes. It's also tough to find them in the non-traditional sizes. When you do find them the selection sucks. There are several online places to get quality framing at decent pricing.
Here's some from my favorites under "frames"... Kendall Hartcraft this one has been my favorite to use so far. MatShop.com - Picture Frames, Art Mats, Custom Mat Board, Framing Supplies & Printing Wholesale Frames, Picture Frames, Wood Frames, Metal Frames, Poster Frames, Certificate Frames, Clip Frames, Poster Hangers. Frame Kits, and Frame Shells. Large size and color selection. Framing4Yourself: Picture Framing Supplies and Equipment, Matboard, Frames and More |

+1 for Michaels. Eric they have a ton of frames, and discount well too.

Find the coupon, I just got another 25% off this weekend, that makes 65% off most frames!

I dont know if you have one in your area, but I have had really great experiences with Frame Central in Tacoma. Had a very large piece of Jason Watt artwork framed for Erick for under $60.00. Beat Michaels price by alot!
If you think you will do this more than two or three times, consider popping for a one time cost of a mat cutter for a couple hundred - will save you big bones later. |
