McChord AFB Air Show 2010

Something to look forward to.
07/16/10 - 07/18/10

Hope to see some of you there.
Here's what I have seen on the web so far.

"As far as jet teams go... we are a victim of our own success. The Thunderbirds go where community support needs them more, I guess Duluth MN needs them more then McChord. Snowbirds are on vacation and the Blues will not come because a week or two later they are in Seattle.

We may get to see a Raptor fly just because we have no T-birds. We'll see. I passed along our strong wishes to ACC.

We talked to a lot of folks at ICAS, but because of the Air Force rules concerning contracts etc, we could not sign or promise anything to anyone. That being said, the following are the performers we have expressed an interest in bringing to McChord for 2010:

Patriots Jet Team
Mig Fury Fighters
Jacquie B
CAF P-51 Red Tail
Tim Weber
John Klatt (ANG)
USO Jet Car
Kent Pietsch (jelly belly)
T-33 Ace Maker

In addition we can expect the following participation:
C-17 Demo
C-17 3 ship airdrop demo
ACC demo
Heritage Flight
Navy Demo
Navy Legacy
Airfield assault
Warbird Review"

I may swing over to the east side of the air field off of Steele Street if I get some time. It makes for a good viewing location, especially if I can talk someone into letting me hang out in the back of their pickup along the fence.
Might be a conflict since it's the same time as the first annual Kent Mundell Memorial Softball Tournament is going on.

From a few years ago when the T-birds flew the show... too bad they won't be there this year. They are definitely a big draw.

And a poster I made for a friend who works with the group that helps to put the show on...

the patriots so far are boring. i cant believe someone dropped the ball on getting the thunderbirds. just doesnt feel like an airshow without the thunderbirds or blue angels flying.

always cool to see a dude jump out of a jet. C-17 is the coolest.

Glad you said something about the guy jumping out. I never would have noticed it. The C-17 is pretty cool, much better than the 130s.

I got a few shots of the C-17 drop, but I was too far away and the overcast sky forced me to shoot in ISO 400 on my Cannon XSi. Plus I was shooting with a 75-200mm L series lense borrowed from my brother. They all turned out to be junk. Nice shot you got there. What were you using?

I messed with this one a bit in photoshop, maybe a bit too much, but anyway...it was terrible to begin with, but the best one I have.

Shot using Cannon XSi, f/7.1, exp 1/2500, iso 400, 0 step, focal length 200mm. I should have turned the iso down to 100 or 200 and the exp down to something like 1/125 or so. I'm still learning. Looking at most of my pictures later in the day, I had ISO 400 on 80% of them for some reason. A few are 200 like I thought I had turned it down to. I'll figure this all out some day. Only 3000 pictures into this camera...
