Lens Help

Ok so we are taking a road trip to yellowstone and mt. rushmore we have a Nikon D80 with a Nikon AF-S 18-135mm, which is a good multi purpose lense at least for us. I want to pick up another lense that would be good for nature/landscape shots, any suggestions?

How long are you going?

rent a few lenses instead of buying one? (hence the length of time)

if you buy its gonna be a tossup
if you get the super zoom your gonna wish you bought the up close and personal 14mm
if you get the up close and personal your gonna wish youd bought the super zoom 70-200

if you get both your gonna wish you had a mid range prime macro

call glaciers and see how much it would cost you to rent 3 lenses

your 18-135 is good man, you can take alot of pictures close and far shots.
you'll be travelling light too instead to carrying a bunch of lenses.

i've talked to alot of people too, they always advice me on getting a 50mm prime lens.

killer is right, renting lenses good, u get to use em if you like em then you can invest on em.
some people regret buying lens that they only use a couple times.

also if you have friends that have same camera and have lenses to spare try em out. buy em a beer or something haha

I recommend ProPhoto supply in portland if you are thinking of renting one. They have the best customer service (IMO). They are just a bunch of geeks who sells and knows about thier equipment. They have a "try before you buy policy". Great people!

I dont know where P town is....... but I will say, i used a tamron 70-300mm for the longest time with pretty good results. You could pick that up for under $200, and if you dont mind used, or if you use Ebay, you could pick it up for around 100. Cant go wrong there. IMO you need at least 300mm for some nice close ups of birds/ smaller animals from far away.
