Critique: Wedding Photo
I'm not a wedding photographer by any stretch of the imagination but I did get lucky shot at a friend's wedding. I guess I'd like some feedback on these images and also if you think they look better in color or B&W?

I guess B&W. Were you using the onboard flash? The shadows are pretty harsh.

The B&W looks better, but I'd soften it a little - also bump the contrast down a touch, maybe do a slight vignetting toward the edges. That should give it a very classic-type of look.

B&W is much better, the colour looks harsh, and perhaps the lighting.

BW just seems so classy...esp for a wedding. Not a pro either. Am wondering what to do about the on-camera harshness too? Maybe a whaletail or something to that effect?
Check this site out for wedding-specific pointers. There's some handy advice for photogs in there. Keep those nice snaps coming! |

My bad...check out Gary Fong's site. Guess he made his humble beginnings as a wedding photog and has made a killing selling his accessories. Just bought his Puffer as I'm a broke-a$$ ametuer just learing (read: can't afford a hot shoe flash yet). I'll throw up some pics soon with maybe a write up.

Nah, it wasn't the onboard flash. It was the SB-600. Thanks for the input everyone, I really didn't notice the harsh flash until you mentioned it...

I didn't notice the flash at first but what I did notice was I was looking up the woman's nose. Might be because of it being dead center of the picture. I know it's not a posed shot (and those can be tough to control) but it's what I see here. Obviously you're focusing on the woman, not the man in this shot, but if he was moved more in frame or slightly more out of frame I think it would draw more attention to her as an overall object.
