I think I'd crop this one square. The bright spots in the upper portion draw my eye away from the duck. Love the slight feel of color though.

Yes! Look at the image. The duck, while not 1/3 of the way from the bottom edge, is approximately 1/3 of the way from the left edge. The bright sun reflection is 1/3 of the way from the bottom, and from the right. There is also a lighter 'band' of lit water about 1/3 of the way down from the top.

So, while every element doesn't fall into the Rule of Thirds, a lot of them do, which helps to make it a very pleasing composition.

Besides the goofy crop, its a GREAT photo. take a little more off of the right.

I like it a lot, except I'd take a little off the left, or maybe make it square as suggested.

Yeah, I like everything except the more I look at the shape of the whole photo it just looks 'odd'. I think I'm just used to seeing things as either square or traditional photo shapes.

Again, the "rule of thirds" really is speaking of Fibonacci Numbers, which can be a great help but doesn't supplant the art involved.
