Why the "spots" ?

What did I do wrong here to get the spots on the bottom right?

All subsequent pictures did not have this
And how do I keep this from happening?

My Camera: must take pretty pictures
lens flare. get a hood or use your hand to shade the front of your lens.

yeah. sun shining on your lens. hood helps prevent this, as well as a multi coat uv filter.

Learned what bokeh is. Shot was taken hand held.

Would a tri-pod have helped or is it all because of the lens?..........JOhn

It's the lens. Tripod won't help. I shot this off a tripod.

JayT, where are you seeing the ugly bokeh? I don't really see much in those photos. The whole picture just looks kinda soft.

the canon 50 1.4 produces some decent bokeh:

BUT, if ciao were to take an out of focus picture, i would still be able to see 6-sided bokeh. which can be not too pleasing. but it's all subjective i suppose.
